Eastern Railroad Station (first) opens.
April 10, 1854
It is located at the corner of Causeway Street and Minot Street. The extension of the line into Boston means that passengers no longer need to be ferried from Lewis Wharf to East Boston. The new route runs through Charlestown, Somerville, Everett and Chelsea. The station burns down on June 21, 1862 and is rebuilt in 1863.*
